It was formed in 1844.

NOTE - There are many rules that need to be followed in order for Polk County requesters to obtain records. Any individual must visit between 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. CST from Monday to Friday to obtain records in-person in Polk County. If a requester wishes to get hold of files, they must bring some form of photo identification. Both driver's licenses and state IDs would suffice. Polk County insists upon public record applications being put in writing.
