Crime Numbers

The Arkansas Crime Information Center provides crime data for all the counties in Arkansas. In its latest reports, there were 9 murders, 162 rapes, 100 robberies, and 621 aggravated assaults in Sebastian County in 2018. Recorded property crimes for that year include 837 burglaries, 318 motor vehicle thefts, and 20 arsons.

A quick comparison of the county’s 2014 and 2018 crime data shows that murder (125%), rape (23.7%), and aggravated assault (4.7%) rates increased during the period. Also, motor vehicle theft rate increased by 58.2% and arson rate went up by 81.8%. However, Sebastian County five-year crime trend reveals that robbery and burglary rates declined by 7.4% and 12.9% respectively.

Crime Record

The Record Services Division of the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office provides local criminal history checks for residents and citizens of the county. The Sheriff’s Office charges $5 for this service and accepts cash for payment.

The Division also provides copies of arrest records which only includes summaries of arrests without conviction status. To obtain this report, complete a Request for Local Arrest History. Copies of accident reports are also available from the Records Services Division of Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office. Each copy costs $4. Cashier’s checks, cash, debit cards, and credit cards are accepted for payment. Visit the Records Division at the address provided above to obtain copies.

Vital Records

Copies of divorce records can be obtained from the Circuit Court in Sebastian County. These are issued at $1 per page for mail requests and costs 50 cents if the copy is collected in person. For divorce cases in Fort Smith City, visit the Circuit Clerk’s Office at the Circuit Court located in Fort Smith at the address provided above. The Circuit Court Clerk’s Office also provides copies of marriage licenses for Sebastian County. A certified copy costs $5 while a photocopy of the same record costs 50 cents if requested in person and $1 if sent via mail. Visit or call the Circuit Court location where the original marriage license was issued to request for copies. Cash or credit card is accepted for payment.

The Arkansas Department of Health provides certified copies of marriage, divorce, birth, and death certificates. To request copies of these vital records, start by downloading and completing a Divorce Coupon Application, Marriage Coupon Application, Birth Certificate Application, or a Death Certificate Application.

Each copy of divorce and marriage records costs $10. On the other hand, the first copy of the birth certificate costs $12, while each additional copy of the same certificate ordered at the same time attracts costs $10 per copy. The fees for a death certificate are $10 for the first copy and $8 for each additional copy of the same record requested together.
