It was formed in 1825.
It was named for the War of 1812 General and Arkansas Territorial Governor George Izard.

However, Izard County charges a fee per record copied. First copies of birth records cost $12 in Izard County. Death certificates in Izard County cost $10. Marriage records in Izard County cost $10.
NOTE - Izard County has a variety of rules that must be followed when it comes to obtaining records. The office is only open between 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p. m. CST from Monday to Friday.
